Experts Workshop on Emissions Trading Scheme Design
18th March 2008
Organised jointly with the EDN, CERF/EERH and the Victorian Department of Environment and Sustainability, held at the Department of Climate Change, Canberra. Presentations and discussions focused on emissions trading design, EU ETS insights and lessons learnt that are directly relevant for policy decisions on emissions trading for Australia. It was attended by the Department of Climate Change and Treasury. Joint CEEM-ISCR Workshop on Electricity Industry Restructuring, 19th - 20th April 2007This two-day workshop organised by the Centre for Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM), UNSW and the New Zealand Institute for the Study of Competition and Regulation (ISCR) reviewed experience to date and current research in electricity industry restructuring in Australia and New Zealand. Workshop on wind energy forecasting and wind power system integration
CEEM hosted a workshop on Dec 5-6, 2005 to explore the international and national experience with respect to:

Designing Markets for Public Policy
A 1 day workshop on the 14th Nov 2005for bureaucrats run in association with Dr David Porter of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Economic Science at George Mason University and Dr Andrew Reeson from the Sustainable Ecosystems group of CSIRO. It focused on experimental economics and the design of regulatory & compliance markets.
New Horizons in Market-based Instruments
A 1 day symposium on the 11th Nov 2005in Canberra collaboration with AARES ACT, CSIRO, and the ARC Economic Design Network. The goal in this symposium was to demonstrate a selection of recent advances in MBI design and application.
State Options to Support Renewable Energy
A CEEM/CANA joint workshop was held on the 12th Oct 2005 for the renewable energy industry and NGOs to help inform their understanding of the policy options available for States to support uptake of renewable energy. A joint workshop with Baker and McKenzie was held on the 12th August. CEEM workshop on the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme (NGAS)
Three presentations from this workshop, held at UNSW on 21 April, 2005, are now available: "Introduction and agenda," Hugh Outhred [pdf], "NGAS registry analysis," Rob Passey [pdf] and "NGAS performance assessment," Iain MacGill [pdf]. A brief summary [pdf] and two discussion papers on this work are also available. Paper DP_050405 delivers a detailed analysis of the NGAS Registry for the 2003 compliance period and can be downloaded here [pdf]. Paper DP_050408 takes the findings of the registry analysis to make an assessment of the scheme's performance to date, develop scenarios of its possible future performance to 2012, and consider their policy implications. It can now be downloaded here [pdf].
