“The CPRS White Paper & Global Context: What’s proposed, what’s changed, what’s missing”

9am-2pm: Thursday 18th December 2008

Hugh Dixson Lecture Theatre, AGSM Building, UNSW Kensington Campus, Sydney

The last year has seen extraordinary changes in the Australian Climate and Energy policy debate driven by the emerging climate science, growing community concerns, the Garnaut Review and the Federal Government commitments to introduce a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS). All this is occurring in the global context of international climate negotiations on what comes post-2012, most recently with COP-14/MOP-4 in Poznan. And now there is the global economic turmoil triggered by the financial crisis which has raised concerns about economic growth prospects, and also questions about the strengths and weaknesses of financial markets, as well as the role of market regulation.

The 4th CEEM Annual conference aims to explore this evolving context for Australian energy and climate policy. In particular it will give attendees an opportunity to discuss the White Paper on the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) – due to be released on the 15th Dec 2008.
