"Insights of the Energy [R]evolution: Transition towards 100% renewable energy. What needs to be done to phase out fossil fuels on a global level"
Sven Teske, Greenpeace International
1:00-2:30 pm, Wed 20 Feb, Room LG05, Tyree Building (H6), Kensington Campus, UNSW [flyer]
The Energy [R]evolution aims to map out a clear pathway to phase out oil and gas by 2050 with new and efficient technologies, especially in the transport sector, and map the parallel uptake of all forms of renewable energy technologies. In this presentation, Sven Teske of Greenpeace International will present the key results and assumptions of the report: ‘Energy [R]evolution: A Sustainable World Energy Outlook 2012’, calculated by the German Space Agency (DLR) for Greenpeace International. The presentation will concentrate on the insights of this energy scenario, why and how specific results in the future energy sector can be achieved, and when. A special focus of this presentation will be to explain the key turning point decisions for different pathways and what policy tools are required to achieve it. Teske will also present the latest figures and facts from the German "Energiewende", the energy transition to phase out nuclear energy within the next 8 years.
The renewable energy technology pathways used in this scenario are based on currently available “off-the-shelf” technologies, market situations and market projections developed from renewable industry associations such as the Global Wind Energy Council, the European Photovoltaic Industry Association and the European Renewable Energy Council, the DLR and Greenpeace International.
This event is co-hosted with the UNSW Institute of Environmental Studies.
